In 1920, Joseph H. Pilates developed a training method for women and men, regardless of age and ability. The training includes strength exercises, stretching and conscious breathing and can take place on the mat or on specially designed equipment.
The goal is to strengthen the muscles, improve condition and coordination of movement, improve posture, stimulate the circulation and increase body awareness. Above all, the low-lying, small and usually weaker muscle groups are addressed, which ensure
a correct and healthy posture.
The muscles of the pelvic floor and the deep trunk muscles are specifically strengthened. All movements are performed slowly and fluently, which protects muscles and joints and at the same time trains breathing.
The resilient and rolling elements effectively promote the relaxation of the fascia. Initially designed specifically for ballet dancers and competitive athletes, the customer base expanded quickly and today includes all levels of sport.
Meanwhile, Pilates is increasingly used for rehabilitation.
